We are the workers at Sycuan Casino Resort.

As community members, we acknowledge that we live and work on the ancestral land of the Kumeyaay Nation.  As workers of Sycuan Casino and Resort, we recognize that we have rights as workers to organize a union and to bargain for fair wages and working conditions. We’ve been organizing our union since the summer of 2019. The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation signed a compact with the State of California, an agreement over the terms for  operating this casino, which is worth millions. The compact includes a neutral process for workers to decide if they want to join the union. But when we tried to organize our union the casino started union busting – including spending over $66,000 to hire professional anti-union consultants. The Tribe’s response to our efforts to unionize was a direct violation of our rights to organize. They are reneging on their agreement with the state of California. We deserve a fair process to unionize!

Maria Fernanda Gomez, Housekeeper

"It’s our hard work that makes the casino millions every year. We deserve a fair process to unionize now!”

Gustavo Hernandez, Deep Cleaner

“I’m organizing the union at Sycuan Casino Resort because my wife and I want to make sure our two children can go to college. When we told Sycuan we were organizing our union, they violated our rights and hired union busters to convince us not to join the union. We deserve the right to organize a union to negotiate for better wages and benefits!”

Dames Daniels, Banquet Server

“There is a lot of injustice at our casino. When I go into work every day, all I can think about is how I’m going to survive that day. I’m fighting for fair pay, respect, and dignity. We all deserve the right to organize, and the casino should respect us so we can build our union!”
